Our Hearts Are With Rasuwa and Nuwakot
On Wednesday morning a glacier gave way above the Lhende Khola. By the time anyone in the valley understood what that sound was, the water was already through Timure and Betrawoti. People were making tea. Getting children ready for school.
We are thinking of every family still waiting for news tonight, and of everyone still out in that valley in the rain, looking.
It was a school-day morning
In the villages along that river, Wednesday began the way every school day begins — bags packed, uniforms found, tea on the stove. In the weeks ahead the teachers of Rasuwa and Nuwakot will be asked to hold their classrooms together while carrying losses of their own. No training prepares anyone for that, and no one should have to carry it alone.
May the missing be found. May the injured heal. May those who were lost rest in peace, and may their families somehow find the strength to carry this.
Our hearts and our prayers are with Rasuwa and Nuwakot, and with every family on both sides of that border.
